Top Restaurant Chain Says “Yes” To Derby

MORE than 30 jobs will be created when Italian restaurant chain Ask opens a branch in Derby. The firm has confirmed it is taking over a lease on the building in Derby Market Place.

Ask parent company Gondola Group – which also runs the Pizza Express and Zizzi brands – is investing more than £600,000 in the venture.

Marc Ward, acquisitions director for Gondola, said: “We have been looking for some considerable time to find a suitable opportunity for Ask in Derby, probably for the last five or six years.

“We’ve finally found a site and we’re very pleased to have got it.”It is hoped the venue will open in February or March, Mr Ward said. In total, between 30 and 35 jobs, both full and part-time, will be created.Derby City Council owns the building on which the lease has been agreed. Adam Wilkinson, Chief Executive of the council, welcomed the investment and creation of jobs.

He said: “This is fantastic news and we are delighted to welcome a quality operator into the heart of the Cathedral Quarter. Derby City Council has worked very closely with Marketing Derby to attract this investment and so bring new jobs for people in the city.”
