The Invest in Derby Media Centre supplies the latest information on developments in the city.

Cameron

One of the world’s largest producers of equipment for the offshore oil and gas industry, Cameron chose Derby in October 2012 for their new “centre of engineering excellence”.

Cameron’s UK Engineering Manager Paul Morley

“Derby really opened our eyes. As well as already having a reputation for engineering, it is a developed city – and its regeneration is continuing, despite what is happening in the wider economy. There is a real buzz about the place. You could say Derby won the beauty contest – but it also won the skills contest.”

“There was a number of things we were looking for in our new location. This included the ability to link up with local universities and good transport infrastructure – including road, rail and air – which Derby has. And, of course, we wanted somewhere that had a depth of engineering talent.”

Carrington Carr Group

After scouring the region for a city to expand into, the Carrington Carr Group chose Derby as their new home to create 100 new jobs in the city.

Chief Executive Officer David Fuher

“We chose Derby as our location for growth primarily because of its central location and easy access to our Leicester headquarters. The reputation the city’s workforce has earned over the past few years was a significant factor, as was the availability of fantastic premises. We had looked at other locations in South Yorkshire and Lincolnshire but Derby was the perfect choice.”

Friendship Care and Housing

After doubling staff numbers, Friendship Care and Housing moved to Derby from Nottingham. They are responsible for delivering services to over 1,200 houses in the region.

Head of Income and Financial Inclusion Gwyn Gascoigne

“We had a housing services review last year and, as a result, staff numbers in Nottingham doubled. We had outgrown the office and there was limited opportunity for holding meetings and parking was very limited, so we made the decision to relocate our staff to Derby. We now have more suitable offices in terms of size, location and proximity to our customers and we’ve got great facilities nearby, too.”

Genting Club

Genting Club, one of the world’s largest leisure and hospitality groups, opened a multi-million pound complex in November 2011. The development included a casino, restaurant and two bars and has become a hub for nightlife in Derby.

Director of Marketing Barry Clemo

“Our aim is to provide the city with a unique entertainment venue for adults. It will be an exciting and safe environment for people to come along and enjoy themselves. Our hope is that our presence here will help Riverlights come alive. We will do all we can to help the city attract more businesses to this development and help with the transformation of this area of Derby.”

ASK Italian

With presence already in Derby city centre, March 2012 saw the Gondola Group open their premium restaurant brand ASK Italian in the vibrant Derby Market Place.

Operations Director at ASK Italian Steve Holmes

“We’ve been wanting to come to Derby for a number of years. We’re delighted with our location. We are right in the very heart of the city and our hope is that we will be able to add to the vibrancy of the Market Place.”

“We’ve been impressed by Derby itself. Things are still happening here, new developments are being built. We have 126 restaurants UK-wide but I’m particularly excited about Derby.”

HEROtsc

After winning a new contract with client Sky, HEROtsc expanded into Derby on Pride Park employing over 600 staff in six months – with more jobs expected to follow.

Chief Executive Officer David Turner:

“In late-summer 2011, our company secured a business win that meant a massive – and rapid – expansion. We needed to find a customer contact facility that could quickly accommodate a starting staff of around 700 with the very real prospect of that figure doubling in time.”

“From the outset we were very impressed with the professionalism and enthusiasm of both Marketing Derby and Derby City Council. They wanted these jobs for Derby and their can-do, will-do attitude was both refreshing and invigorating during the often complicated process of securing our premises in the Pride Park area.”

Chief Executive Officer John McArthur

“Derby is the biggest rail city in Europe and with the likes of Rolls-Royce, Toyota and many other great companies within the city, locating to Derby was one of best business decisions we have made. As well as being able to find skilled staff very easily, the central location and fantastic transport links that Derby has, is key to our future success and growth in the UK.”
